Introducing Affordability Roadblocks Series

Today, Housing Affordability Institute released a new series of white papers titled “Affordability Roadblocks.” Housing Affordability Institute’s Affordability Roadblocks series highlights housing policy issues having adversely impacted housing affordability and access.

The initial issues presented include:

  • Aesthetic Mandates: Policies, often at the local level, regulating the appearance of homes in a way that does not impact safety, durability, and home performance. Examples include point-based design programs and requirements for luxury cladding.
  • Regulatory Marketing: Efforts by building product manufacturers to create or increase product demand through mandating its use in either the model building codes, local code adoption or through local zoning controls.
